A Family Shattered by Gun Violence
In May 2015, the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago was the scene of a devastating act of violence that claimed the life of 19-year-old Shamari Salter. Salter was seated in a parked car alongside two other 19-year-olds when another vehicle approached, and an occupant opened fire. The assailants targeted the trio without warning, leaving Salter fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene, a young life abruptly ended.
A Mother's Unfathomable Grief
The murder of Shamari Salter was not an isolated tragedy for his family. His mother, Stephanie Franklin, had endured the loss of another son to gun violence less than a year prior.
