A Tragic Night at Cielito Park
In the early hours of July 26, 2016, Shirk embarked on one of his regular runs at Cielito Park, located near 35th and Campbell avenues in Phoenix. The park, a popular spot for local residents, had recently seen an influx of visitors due to the Pokémon Go phenomenon. Around 1 a.m., amidst more than a dozen park-goers, including several Pokémon Go players, Shirk was shot multiple times.
