A Young Mother Striving for a Better Future

At 23, Francina S. Lowery was a devoted mother of two young children, aged 2 and 4. Determined to provide them with a brighter future, she had recently enrolled in classes and was making concerted efforts to spend quality time with her kids. Her friend, Tracy Farmer, noted, "Francina was turning her life around for her kids." Her sister, Lora Lowery, added, "Francina and her kids had a bond that no one could ever break."

The Tragic Evening in Humboldt Park

On the evening of July 6, 2017, around 6:30 p.m., Francina was in the 4400 block of West Haddon Avenue in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood. This area was unfamiliar to her; her sister speculated that she might have been looking at an apartment, but acknowledged that Francina could be quite private about her activities.
