A Promising Young Life

In the early hours of October 12, 2016, the Denver community was shaken by the tragic loss of 19-year-old Deonta McDonald. Known affectionately by his nicknames "D" and "Slim," Deonta was more than just a statistic; he was a beacon of hope and leadership in his neighborhood. Friends and family remember him as a natural leader with a great sense of humor and an optimistic outlook on life. In an area where gang affiliation was common, Deonta stood out by dedicating himself to preventing gang violence, striving to make his community a safer place for everyone.

The Fateful Night

At approximately 12:58 a.m. on October 12, 2016, Denver Police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1300 block of South Birch Street. Upon arrival, they found Deonta lying at the doorway of apartment A-104, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Denver Health Medical Center, where, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
