A Promising Young Life Cut Short

On May 31, 2015, the Tampa community was shaken by the tragic loss of 14-year-old Edward James Harris IV, affectionately known as EJ. While walking home from playing basketball at Woodland Terrace Park, EJ was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting, just a block away from his residence on Diana Street. The incident occurred in broad daylight, around 4:20 p.m., leaving the community in shock and mourning the untimely death of a promising young life.

A Troubling Pattern of Violence

EJ's tragic death was not an isolated incident in his young life. In October 2014, he witnessed a stabbing and, demonstrating courage, cooperated with law enforcement, leading to an arrest. Months later, in January 2015, while playing basketball at a local community center, EJ was robbed at gunpoint, resulting in another arrest.
