The Tragic Evening: A Young Life Cut Short
On the evening of September 19, 2015, the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood of Indianapolis was shattered by a senseless act of violence. Ten-year-old De'Shaun Swanson, affectionately known as "Little Man," was attending a memorial service with his family at a residence in the 3900 block of Graceland Avenue. As they arrived, gunfire erupted from a passing vehicle, striking De'Shaun and three others. Despite being rushed to Riley Hospital for Children, De'Shaun succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community in mourning.

De'Shaun was a vibrant fourth-grader with aspirations of becoming a basketball player. His family and friends remember him as an ambitious student with a creative mind and a great wit to match.
