A Promising Life Cut Short

On January 22, 2017, the tight-knit community of Castroville, California, was shaken by the tragic death of 20-year-old Julian "Captain" Quintero. Known for his infectious smile and unwavering dedication, Julian was a beloved son, brother, and friend. He excelled in sports at North Monterey County High School, lettering in football, track, and basketball, and was even crowned Prom King his senior year. At the time of his passing, Julian was attending Monterey Peninsula College with aspirations to transfer to a four-year university. His love for music and admiration for Captain America symbolized his commitment to standing up for others and bringing joy to those around him.

The Fateful Night

That evening, Julian decided to attend a house party in the Oak Hills neighborhood of Castroville, a rare outing for him. Before leaving, his mother, Lupe Calderon, reminded him to call her if he needed a ride home. Upon arriving at the party on Knollwood Court, Julian took it upon himself to act as a bouncer, ensuring that only invited guests were allowed entry.
