On December 28, 2021, a bear hunter found what he believed to be human remains in the Monongahela National Forest, and reported his finding to the WV State Police. The bear hunter led law enforcement out to the location on December 29, 2021, where law enforcement confirmed that they were human remains, collected the bones and clothing, and reported the death to the WV OCME.
