On May 17, 2018, the body of Michael Ryan Hartigan, aged 65, was found at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. The decedent had passed away due to natural causes. His remains were managed by the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office (PCMEO), cataloged under the agency's case number 18-1063, and his Namus ID is UCP53166. Despite efforts to trace more extended family members, the only known relatives, an aunt and uncle, were unfortunately unable to claim him.
The PCMEO conducted an extensive search to locate additional family members who might have been able to claim Hartigan’s remains, but these efforts proved fruitless. As a result, his body was sent to a rotation funeral home where it underwent cremation. The cremated remains, referred to as cremains, were subsequently returned to the PCMEO for further handling.
Further inquiry revealed that Hartigan was a veteran with eligibility for burial at the Tahoma National Cemetery. Taking this into consideration, on September 19, 2018, the cremains were ultimately released to be laid to rest with the dignity afforded to veterans.
