On February 18, 2016, the body of a woman named Barbara Jo Sheets was discovered in Dallas, Texas. Following the discovery, authorities officially pronounced her deceased in the same city. At the time, little was known about her background, and efforts immediately began to trace her identity and locate any surviving relatives who could assist with the process.
