On October 25, 2018, the body of Gilbert Salazar was discovered in Dallas, Texas. Despite efforts to identify and locate his next of kin, Salazar remains an unclaimed person. The circumstances surrounding his death have been documented by the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences, which is currently overseeing the case.
