On July 15, 2023, the Honolulu Police Department discovered the deceased body of Francis M. Shimabukuro at his residence following a welfare check. The request for this check was made by the resident manager who, concerned by a lack of recent interactions with Francis, sought the assistance of law enforcement to ensure his well-being. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Francis had passed away, though the circumstances surrounding his death remain undisclosed by available sources.
