In the early part of 2019, specifically on the 18th of March, the body of Richard Reed was discovered in his apartment in Denver, Colorado. This discovery was made by his caseworker, who upon checking in on him, found him unresponsive. The situation quickly escalated to a formal investigation handled by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
