In the summer of 2006, the life of 17-year-old Rebekah Danelle 'Bekah' Acorn was tragically cut short. On July 17, in a cornfield in Bowman, Indiana, she was found slain alongside two others, 21-year-old Daniel Spencer White and 18-year-old Keela Leigh Lynch. A fourth individual, Cameron White, was the sole survivor of the brutal attack. The group had been lured to the remote location by Nicholas Harbison under the pretense of harvesting marijuana plants he claimed to have found.
Once there, Harbison turned on them, shooting and stabbing his victims.
The investigation into the triple homicide quickly focused on Harbison, who was identified by the surviving victim. A motive for the horrific crime was not definitively established, though authorities speculated it may have stemmed from a dispute over a girl. In the immediate aftermath of the killings, Harbison fled and managed to evade capture for a period of time, prompting a nationwide manhunt that included a feature on the television show 'America's Most Wanted.'
While Harbison was on the run, he received assistance from a woman named Davis. She harbored Harbison, hiding with him in the woods for approximately eight to nine days. Davis later lied to investigators, claiming she only learned of the murders after seeing the 'America's Most Wanted' episode. Her deception unraveled, and she was subsequently arrested, tried, and convicted of assisting a criminal and false informing. During her trial, it was revealed that Harbison had confessed to her that he had shot and killed Spencer, Cameron, and the two girls before they fled. Harbison eventually surrendered to authorities.
