On the evening of February 11, 2015, 23-year-old James J. Young, an African American male from Indianapolis, Indiana, was found deceased inside a truck with at least one gunshot wound. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of shots fired around 7:25 p.m. in the 3000 block of West 10th Street, east of North Tibbs Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered James J. Young inside the vehicle and pronounced him dead at the scene.
