Alayna Ortiz, an 18-year-old high school student from Griffith, Indiana, tragically lost her life on January 9, 2019. Ortiz was fatally shot in the head while sitting in the passenger seat of a red SUV in the parking lot of the Park West Apartments in Griffith. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when a police officer, working as a part-time security officer at the complex, heard what sounded like a car crash.
