On a September evening in Plainfield, Indiana, a gathering of men in a motel parking lot turned tragically violent, leaving two dead and two others wounded. One of the men who lost his life was Alfredo Garcia, a 52-year-old from Texas. On September 10, 2022, Garcia and four other men were outside the White House Suites, drinking and playing music when they were approached by a man. This individual, later identified as Dalonny Rodgers, reportedly laughed in their faces before opening fire.
More than 10 shots were fired, cutting the evening short in a burst of unexpected violence.
In the aftermath, Alfredo Garcia and 34-year-old Jose Rolando Castaneda Varela, also from Texas, were identified as the two deceased victims. Two other men were also shot but survived their injuries. The Plainfield Police Department quickly launched an investigation, identifying 28-year-old Dalonny Dion Rodgers of Indianapolis as the suspect. Charges were filed against him, including two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. Despite the charges, Rodgers remained at large for over a year.
The search for Rodgers came to an end in December 2023, when he was apprehended in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. His arrest was the result of a separate investigation into a stolen vehicle. During his arrest in Massachusetts, Rodgers faced numerous local charges, including larceny of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer. Following his capture, authorities began the process of extraditing him back to Indiana to face the murder and attempted murder charges for the deadly shooting at the Plainfield motel. At the time of the shooting, Rodgers had an active warrant for a probation violation stemming from a prior conviction.
