In the quiet community of Forest, Virginia, a sense of unease began to ripple through a local workplace when a dependable employee failed to arrive for his shift for several days in a row. This uncharacteristic absence prompted a concerned co-worker to request a welfare check on Curtis Lee Brumfield, a 58-year-old Caucasian man. On April 9, 2015, deputies from the Bedford County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to his residence on Jane Randolph Street to investigate.
Upon entering the
home, the deputies made a grim discovery. They found Curtis Brumfield and his wife, 56-year-old Susan Brumfield, deceased inside. In the days that followed, the bodies of Curtis and Susan Brumfield were transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for autopsies to determine the cause of their deaths. As the investigation unfolded, the Bedford County Sheriff's Office announced that their preliminary findings did not suggest foul play or the involvement of any third party.
