On a quiet Saturday evening in the small town of Onley, Virginia, a tragedy unfolded that left the community in shock. On December 26, 2015, police were dispatched to a residence on Maple Street around 8:36 p.m. following a report of a deceased individual and another with life-threatening injuries. Inside the home, they discovered the body of 52-year-old Xiaoliang Wang.
Also found at the scene was 45-year-old Hongmei Tan, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
She was immediately transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The initial investigation by the Accomack County Sheriff's Office and the Onley Police Department led them to believe the incident was a murder-suicide.
