In the early morning hours of October 7, 2018, the life of 21-year-old Hasaan Burton of Virginia Beach, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Accomack County, Virginia. The incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. when the Accomack County Sheriff's Office received a report that two individuals with gunshot wounds were being transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital from the Exmore area. Burton succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
A second victim in the vehicle was treated for their injuries and subsequently released.
The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred on Lankford Highway in Keller, Virginia. It is believed that shots were fired from one vehicle into the one occupied by Burton and the other victim. Authorities suspect that the events leading to the shooting may have begun with an argument at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. This dispute is thought to have continued as the parties traveled through various locations, including a Royal Farms in Princess Anne, Maryland, and New Church, Virginia, before the fatal encounter.
