In the quiet community of Haysi, Virginia, a tragic event unfolded on Sunday, February 24, 2019, leading to the death of 21-year-old Tyler Ray Deel Smith. A graduate of Ridgeview High School in 2016, Smith was a certified welder with a close-knit family and circle of friends who remembered him fondly.
On that fateful evening, Smith was at a residence on Big Ridge Road when a domestic dispute broke out between Dylan Scott Mullins, 22, and his wife, Adrienne Mullins, 26.
In a violent escalation, Dylan Mullins fatally shot his wife. When Smith, a family friend, attempted to intervene, he was also shot and killed by Mullins.
The Dickenson County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call and discovered the three deceased individuals at the scene. The investigation concluded that after killing his wife and Smith, Dylan Mullins took his own life. As the perpetrator died at the scene, there were no arrests made in connection with the deaths of Adrienne Mullins and Tyler Ray Deel Smith. The incident was classified as a murder-suicide, leaving the community to mourn the loss of three young lives.
