A robbery gone awry....
Rhoda McFarland, a 42-year-old African American woman, was tragically killed on February 2, 2008, in Tinley Park, Illinois. She was the store manager at the Lane Bryant clothing store in Brookside Marketplace, where the incident occurred. McFarland had previously served in the U.S. Air Force as a nurse and was deeply involved in her community, working as an associate pastor at Embassy Christian Center. She was known for her generosity and dedication to helping others, having founded a program called Princess Unveiled to mentor young women.
On the morning of February 2, 2008, an unidentified gunman entered the Lane Bryant store and fatally shot McFarland along with four other women. The attack was described as an execution-style killing, shocking the local community and law enforcement. Authorities believe the shooting was the result of a botched robbery, as the suspect had initially posed as a delivery worker before announcing a holdup.
