A simmering domestic dispute in a Bassett, Virginia apartment on a Saturday evening in June of 2022 escalated into a deadly exchange of gunfire, leaving a 32-year-old Black woman, Tambria Taylor, dead. The tranquil moments of that night were shattered around 9:30 p.m. when the Henry County 9-1-1 center received a frantic call from a man who declared that both he and his girlfriend had been shot.
When deputies from the Henry County Sheriff's Office arrived at the Meadow Green Drive
apartment, they discovered a violent scene. Inside, they found Tambria Taylor with multiple gunshot wounds; she was pronounced dead at the scene. The man who had made the emergency call, 32-year-old Tyson Hairston of Collinsville, was also suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds to his neck and torso. He was airlifted to a Roanoke hospital for medical attention.
The preliminary investigation painted a grim picture of the events that transpired. Authorities reported that Taylor and her boyfriend, Hairston, had become embroiled in a heated argument. The confrontation took a fatal turn as both individuals were armed with handguns and fired at each other, resulting in the tragic outcome. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
