In the small town of Gordonsville, Virginia, a tragedy unfolded on December 27, 2022, ending the life of 48-year-old Deborah Griffin. A White female, Griffin became the victim of a violent encounter that would shock the local community.
That evening, around 5 p.m., deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence at 19540 Gates Drive after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Deborah Griffin lying in the yard.
First responders immediately began life-saving measures before she was rushed to the UVA Hospital by Orange County Fire/EMS. Despite their efforts, Griffin was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Inside the home, deputies encountered 79-year-old James Irvin Geer, who was then taken into custody. Following an investigation into the shooting, Geer was arrested and faced serious charges: second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Geer, who was 80 years old at the time of some reports, was held without bond.
The motive behind the fatal shooting is believed to be a love triangle. Reports indicate that Geer himself admitted to killing Griffin.
