In a quiet home in Tabernacle, New Jersey, the life of 11-year-old Alexander Frederick Harriman was tragically cut short in November 2014. The young boy, who had a passion for history and science, was a student at Kenneth R. Olson Middle School. He, along with his two siblings, 14-year-old Nicholas and 8-year-old Nadia, became the victims of a horrific act perpetrated by their own mother.
The events unfolded on November 20, 2014, when 44-year-old Jeannine LePage shot her three children before turning the gun on herself. Police reported that LePage used a pillow to muffle the sound of the gunshots. While Nicholas and Nadia were pronounced dead at the scene, Alexander clung to life and was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in extremely critical condition. His mother succumbed to her self-inflicted injuries three days later, on November 23.
For six days, Alexander fought for his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe.
On November 26, the young boy passed away, becoming the final victim of the family tragedy. The community was left in shock and mourning. A funeral Mass for Alexander and his siblings was held on December 6 at the Church of the Holy Eucharist in Tabernacle.
Authorities investigated the devastating event, but the motive behind Jeannine LePage's actions remained a mystery. With the perpetrator deceased, the investigation concluded that it was a murder-suicide, and no arrests were made as there were no other suspects. The loss of the three young lives left a permanent scar on the Tabernacle community.
