In the summer of 2017, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in her own home. Twenty-five-year-old Cheynee Jenkins was fatally shot inside her Stonington Court apartment in Lindenwold, New Jersey, on the morning of Friday, July 21, 2017. Emergency services were dispatched to the apartment complex around 8:43 a.m. following a 911 call reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, responders found Jenkins suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was rushed to Kennedy Hospital for treatment, but her injuries proved to be too severe. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Cheynee Jenkins succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:58 a.m. that same morning.
The incident left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life to gun violence.
The day after the fatal shooting, an arrest was made in connection with the case. Jamar Maldonado, a 26-year-old man from Lindenwold, was taken into custody and charged with one count of first-degree murder in Jenkins' death. Following his arrest, Maldonado was remanded to the Camden County Jail to await a pretrial detention hearing.
