In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 16, 2018, what was initially reported as a car crash in Harrison, New Jersey, quickly unfolded into a homicide investigation. Responding to the scene at approximately 4:25 a.m. near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Frank Rodgers Boulevard, police discovered a GMC Yukon that had struck a pole. Lying next to the vehicle was the body of 31-year-old Shadi Miles of Newark.
Miles, a male, was found to have sustained an apparent gunshot wound to his torso and was pronounced dead at the scene around 4:55 a.m. Investigators believe he had been in the Yukon at the time he was shot. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit took the lead in the investigation into his death.
A second individual, 19-year-old Joseph Bossie of East Orange, was also found to have been shot.
Authorities believe Bossie was in the same vehicle with Miles. After the crash, Bossie fled the scene and, in the vicinity of Warren Street, he forcibly stole a bicycle from another individual, striking them with a pistol in the process. He later sought treatment at University Hospital in Newark for gunshot wounds to his face and a lower extremity. Bossie was subsequently charged with armed robbery and weapons offenses related to the bicycle theft.
