In the early morning hours of June 22, 2020, a young man's life was cut short in a hotel room in Runnemede, New Jersey. Kevin D. Owens III, a 26-year-old male, was found by police suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident, which shattered the pre-dawn quiet, took place at a hotel located on East 9th Avenue.
An investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a single suspect, 33-year-old Brandy Lee, also of Runnemede. Authorities stated that the shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. following an argument between Lee and Owens, who were in a relationship. A crucial piece of evidence in the case was the hotel's surveillance footage. The video reportedly showed that Lee was the only individual to enter and exit the hotel room around the time the fatal shot was fired.
This led to her swift apprehension by the Runnemede Police.
Following her arrest, Brandy Lee was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Kevin Owens. She also faced a charge of third-degree hindering apprehension. Lee was subsequently taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility to await a pretrial detention hearing. The case against her was built upon the evidence gathered at the scene and the compelling surveillance footage that placed her as the sole person with Owens at the time of his death.
