On a tragic day in Ironwood, Michigan, 41-year-old Vienna L. Gustafson, a female, became a victim in a shocking eruption of violence that deeply scarred the community. The events of March 16, 1968, unfolded when a 56-year-old woodcutter and janitor named Eric E. Pearson embarked on a deadly rampage armed with a high-powered deer rifle. The horrific sequence of events began at Gustafson's residence on Airport Road, which would become the primary scene of the carnage.
Inside the Gustafson home, a scene of unimaginable horror was discovered. Pearson had opened fire, killing five people in what was described as a blood-splattered living room. Among the deceased was Vienna L. Gustafson. The violence within the home also left Gustafson's 12-year-old daughter, Robin, seriously wounded but alive.
