In the early morning hours of September 8, 2014, in Spencer Township, Michigan, a violent home invasion tragically cut short the life of 34-year-old Brent Luttrell. A group of masked and armed individuals forced their way into his residence on Pinewood Street, believing there was a significant amount of cash and drugs inside. Luttrell confronted the intruders in his yard and was subsequently forced into their vehicle. He suffered multiple gunshot and stab wounds during the harrowing encounter.
His assailants then pushed him from the moving car, leaving him on Lincoln Lake Avenue, just a short distance from his home. Though found still breathing, Luttrell succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The investigation into the brutal slaying led to the arrest of six individuals connected to the crime. The suspects were identified as Jaman Amr Parish, Christopher Paul Duncan, Tyler Coty Rohn, Kevin Carson Berry, Isaac MP Fezzey, and Zachary Bennett. Investigators determined that the home invasion was based on the false belief that Luttrell had $80,000 in cash and drugs at his home. It was revealed that Duncan had allegedly helped coordinate the robbery attempt.
The legal proceedings that followed brought some measure of justice for Brent Luttrell. Jaman Amr Parish, identified as the gunman who shot Luttrell four times, was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to mandatory life in prison. Christopher Paul Duncan was sentenced to 7 to 22 ½ years in prison for his role in the home invasion. Kevin Carson Berry pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. The remaining defendants, Tyler Coty Rohn, Isaac MP Fezzey, and Zachary Bennett, also faced charges including felony murder, armed robbery, and home invasion for their involvement in the events that led to Luttrell's death. Bennett, who claimed he backed out of the robbery at the last minute, testified against his co-defendants.
