In the summer of 2015, a dispute between two men in Three Rivers, Michigan, tragically ended in the death of Eugene De'Mario Jackson. On the evening of August 20, the 24-year-old was shot multiple times in the vicinity of 7th and State Street. Despite being airlifted to a hospital in Kalamazoo, Jackson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing Jackson talking with 28-year-old Westly George shortly before the sound of gunshots filled the
air. In the immediate aftermath, as people rushed to his aid, Jackson was able to identify his assailant, stating that George was the one who had shot him. George was seen fleeing the scene but was apprehended by police shortly after the incident.
The investigation that followed revealed a history of conflict between the two men, with George having previously threatened to kill Jackson. This information, coupled with witness testimonies, formed the foundation of the case against George. He was subsequently charged with open murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony firearm.
During his trial, Westly George maintained his innocence, claiming another individual was responsible for the shooting. However, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and the other related charges. For the murder of Eugene Jackson, George was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He also received additional sentences for the other charges, bringing a legal conclusion to the case and a measure of closure to Jackson's family and the community.
