In the late days of March 2020, a violent encounter in Bunker Hill Township, Michigan, led to the untimely death of 40-year-old Bradley Wicks of Lansing. On March 30th, Wicks was brought to McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital with life-threatening injuries, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on March 31st.
The shooting that claimed his life occurred in the 3000 block of Haynes Road, south of Dansville.
The Ingham County Sheriff's Office quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act and their investigation led them to an address in Bunkerhill Township. Their efforts resulted in the identification of several individuals believed to be connected to the death of Wicks. Two men from Stockbridge, Devon Carl Baldwin, 31, and Garylee Douglas Dexter, 26, were arrested and faced serious charges. Baldwin was charged with open murder, conspiracy to commit murder, felony firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Dexter was charged with open murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Both men were held without bond at the Ingham County Jail as they awaited their court appearances.
As the investigation continued, three other individuals were also charged with felonies in connection with the case, bringing the total number of people facing legal consequences to five. The legal process for Devon Baldwin culminated in a 5 1/2-week trial that concluded on June 17, 2022, with a guilty verdict. On September 7, 2022, Baldwin, then 33, was sentenced to 50 to 66 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections for his role in the fatal shooting of Bradley Wicks. During his sentencing, Baldwin expressed sorrow to the victim's family for their loss but maintained his innocence, claiming the prosecutor was determined to convict him after already securing a guilty verdict against Garylee Dexter.
