In the autumn of 2021, a grim discovery was made in a Hamtramck, Michigan apartment, shattering the lives of two families. De’Angelique Thomas, a 25-year-old Black/African American woman, was found deceased on October 28th alongside her boyfriend, Khalileo Anderson. A concerned family member, unable to reach Anderson, went to his apartment on Caniff near Moran and stumbled upon the tragic scene. Both Thomas and Anderson had been fatally shot. The Hamtramck Police were initially called for a medical emergency, but upon their arrival, it was evident that a double homicide had occurred. Investigators learned that gunshots had been heard in the vicinity the night before the couple's bodies were discovered. The news of their violent deaths sent ripples of shock and grief through the community.
The investigation into the double homicide moved forward, and within a couple of weeks, a significant breakthrough was announced. The Hamtramck Police Department, with assistance from local, state, and federal partners, identified and arrested a suspect. RayQuan Young, a 24-year-old man from the nearby city of Inkster, was taken into custody in connection with the killings. The motive for the crime, as suggested by authorities, appeared to be robbery. The arrest brought a measure of hope for justice to the grieving families and the concerned community.
Following his arrest, RayQuan Young was charged with a string of serious felonies. The charges included two counts of homicide, two counts of armed robbery, and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was arraigned on November 13, 2021, and his case began its journey through the court system. A subsequent court appearance was scheduled for November 23, 2021, to continue the legal proceedings that would determine his fate and seek to hold him accountable for the tragic deaths of De’Angelique Thomas and Khalileo Anderson.
