In the early morning hours of October 21, 2022, a dispute between coworkers at the LG Energy Solution facility in Hazel Park, Michigan, turned fatal, claiming the life of 27-year-old Raphael Bryant Scott-French. A Black / African American male, Scott-French was an engineer who had been with the company for approximately two years. The incident that led to his death began as a workplace altercation and tragically escalated in the company parking lot.
The conflict reportedly started inside
the facility around 7 a.m. between Scott-French and his colleague, Malik Lashawn Dixon-Lynch. The disagreement moved outside, where Dixon-Lynch is alleged to have shot Scott-French. Police arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting and found Dixon-Lynch back inside the building with security personnel. He surrendered to the authorities without resistance and was taken into custody.
Following the investigation by the Hazel Park Police Department, Malik Lashawn Dixon-Lynch, 25 years old at the time, was charged in connection with the death of Raphael Bryant Scott-French. The charges brought against him included second-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of felony firearm. During legal proceedings, Dixon-Lynch was denied bond. The case has been moving through the court system as authorities and legal representatives continue to review evidence, including video footage of the incident, to piece together the events that transpired on that tragic morning.
