In the tumultuous backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement, a local jukebox repairman named Ray Gunter, a 23-year-old white male, was tragically killed in Oxford, Mississippi. His death occurred on the night of September 30, 1962, during the violent riots that erupted on the campus of the University of Mississippi. The riots were in protest of the enrollment of James Meredith, the university's first African American student.
