In a tragic turn of events stemming from domestic issues, 64-year-old Cheria Dixon of Perkinston, Mississippi, lost her life in December 2014. The incident, which also resulted in the death of her 67-year-old husband, Horace Dixon, has been classified as a double murder-suicide.
On the day of the incident, Cheria and Horace Dixon were discovered in a vehicle in the Benndale community, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Horace Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cheria Dixon was critically wounded and transported to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula for emergency surgery. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries on December 13, 2014.
The investigation identified the couple's former son-in-law, James Andrew Brown, as the perpetrator of the shooting. After the attack, Brown fled the scene, prompting a 90-minute search involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including George County deputies, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the Stone County Sheriff's Department.
The search for James Andrew Brown concluded when he was found deceased in a wooded area approximately 15 miles from the location of the shooting. His death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. With the primary suspect having taken his own life, the investigation into the deaths of Cheria and Horace Dixon was concluded, and no further arrests were made in connection with the case.
