Kristian Bailey, a 31-year-old mother of two from Rowlett, Texas, was found dead in Mount Olive, Mississippi, in a case that began as a kidnapping and ended in tragedy. Bailey had recently started a new job at a power-washing company, a position her co-worker, 37-year-old Brian Douglas Allen, had encouraged her to take. On August 28, 2019, Allen picked Bailey up in a company truck, telling her they were headed to a job in Arlington, Texas.
Concern grew when Bailey, who was known for her punctuality, failed to pick up her two sons, aged approximately 5 and 12, later that day.
Family members, unable to reach Bailey as she did not have a cellphone, repeatedly tried to contact Allen, who did not answer their calls. The family then contacted the power-washing company, which located the truck in Mississippi and was able to remotely disable the vehicle. In brief and frantic communications that followed, Bailey's mother and boyfriend both spoke with Allen and Bailey, hearing shouting in the background. It is believed that after the truck was disabled, Bailey and Allen continued on foot.
Later that night, residents in a rural area of Mount Olive reported hearing gunshots. When Covington County deputies responded, they were met with gunfire from Allen, who then stole a patrol car and fled the scene. He was apprehended about six hours later. Tragically, Kristian Bailey's body was discovered in the front yard of a home in Mount Olive by the homeowners who had been out of town. It is believed her body lay there for half a day before being found. She had been fatally shot.
Brian Douglas Allen was arrested in connection with Bailey's death and was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. His bail was set at $2.25 million. While some reports described Bailey as Allen's ex-girlfriend, her family stated that they had been co-workers and that she was planning to marry her boyfriend, Nate Baldwin.
