In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Edwards, Mississippi, the life of 27-year-old Djuana Lanyea Robinson was tragically cut short. On January 26, 2020, Robinson was found deceased in her apartment at the Brandon Arms Apartment complex, a victim of gunshot wounds in what authorities would rule a double homicide. Also killed in the violent episode was 57-year-old Michael Anthony Lawson.
A child's 911 call alerted the Hinds County Sheriff's Office to the shooting.
Responding deputies discovered Lawson's body outside one of the apartment buildings. The assailant had then reportedly forced his way into Robinson's apartment and shot her. Tragically, Robinson's three young children, a six-year-old and two toddlers, were in the home at the time of the incident but were physically unharmed.
Investigators quickly identified 19-year-old Justin Mosley as the suspect in the double homicide. Authorities stated that Mosley knew at least one of his victims, though a specific motive was not immediately released. In addition to the murder charges, Mosley was also wanted in connection with a burglary that had occurred at the same apartment complex earlier that month. A manhunt for Mosley ensued, and he was considered armed and dangerous.
Following a search, U.S. Marshals and Hinds County sheriff's deputies apprehended Justin Mosley on January 29, 2020. He was subsequently charged with one count of capital murder and one count of murder and was held without bond at the Raymond Detention Center. However, the legal proceedings against him would never reach a conclusion. On April 18, 2021, after having been incarcerated for 16 months awaiting trial, 21-year-old Justin Mosley was found hanging in his cell. Medical personnel were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced deceased. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called to look into his death.
