In a chilling sequence of events that unfolded in Sulphur, Oklahoma, a 40-year-old man, Randale Lee Hokett of Ardmore, was forcibly taken from a home and tragically lost his life. The incident began on a Friday evening when a man broke into a woman's residence in Sulphur.
At gunpoint, the assailant forced both Randale Lee Hokett and the woman into Hokett's pickup truck. He then drove them to the serene setting of Veterans Lake, a place that would soon become a scene of violence.
It was there, by the water's edge, that Hokett was shot and killed.
Following the fatal shooting, the perpetrator took his own vehicle and drove the female victim to the Sulphur Police Department. In a bizarre turn, he compelled her to call 911 and report the crime. This call was made around midnight, setting in motion the official investigation into the harrowing events.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Justin Ray Smith of Lindsey, Oklahoma, did not remain at large for long. He later turned himself in to the Lindsey Police Department. After being transferred to the custody of the Garvin County Sheriff's Office, he was interviewed by agents from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Subsequently, Justin Ray Smith was arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and rape.
