In the otherwise quiet town of Sulphur, Oklahoma, a tragic and violent event unfolded in the parking lot of the local Walmart on a Sunday evening in April 2019. Jaclyn Chaney, a 48-year-old woman, was fatally shot while she was at the location for a child custody exchange with her estranged husband. The incident sent shockwaves through the community as details of the brutal act came to light.
The circumstances surrounding Jaclyn's death pointed to a domestic dispute that had escalated to
a fatal confrontation. She was meeting with her estranged husband, Mitchel Chaney, to exchange their children. While Mitchel was inside the store with the couple's children, the fatal encounter occurred in the parking lot. It was there that Jaclyn was shot and killed.
The suspect in the shooting was quickly identified and apprehended at the scene. He was Alan Chaney, Jaclyn's 68-year-old father-in-law.
