In the late summer of 2019, a heart-wrenching tragedy befell the small town of Madill, Oklahoma, forever altering the lives of a local family. Stephanie Renee Horath, a 12-year-old girl, was killed on August 22, 2019. This devastating event also claimed the lives of her 16-year-old brother, Jonathan Horath, and their 53-year-old mother, Monica Horath.
Stephanie was a student at Madill Middle School where she was known for her love of arts and crafts and was a member of 'Girls on the
Run.' She was born in Madill on May 16, 2007, to Monica Lynn Horath and Jimmy Daniel Horath. Friends and teachers remembered her as a kind and generous person with a passion for drawing.
The grim discovery of the triple homicide was made after the Marshall County Sheriff's Office received a chilling call. A friend of Monica's husband, Kevin Moseley, reported that Moseley had confessed to killing his wife and stepchildren. When deputies arrived at the family's residence, they found the bodies of Monica, Jonathan, and Stephanie, all of whom had been fatally shot.
Kevin Moseley was apprehended days later near Abilene, Texas, and was extradited back to Marshall County to face charges. Initially, he entered a plea of not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder. However, in December 2021, Moseley changed his plea to guilty as part of an agreement to avoid the death penalty. He was subsequently sentenced to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
