In the small city of Durant, Oklahoma, a tragic series of events unfolded on Monday, March 2, 2020, culminating in the death of 31-year-old Jessica Louise Espinoza. A mother of five, Jessica was remembered for her big heart and her desire to help people, a quality that shone through in her work in the customer service field. She had dreams of furthering her education to become a Nurse Practitioner, a testament to her caring nature.
Having moved to Durant in 2011, she was a cherished member of her community, known for dedicating her time and talents to her children, family, and friends.
The day's grim events began to unfold around 11 a.m. when Durant Police were dispatched to a residence on Stonebrook Circle following reports of gunfire. Inside the home, they discovered the body of Jarrick Hageon. A juvenile witness at the scene identified the suspect as Kyon Gray. The investigation quickly led police to locate Gray, who was arrested by approximately 2 p.m. and subsequently admitted to the shooting.
A short time later, at around 3 p.m., the investigation took another devastating turn. A vehicle was found off the road in the 2500 block of Sunnyside Road. Inside the vehicle was the body of Jessica Espinoza. Her death was connected to the earlier shooting, turning a homicide investigation into a case of a double homicide. The community was left to mourn the loss of two lives, and Jessica's family and friends were faced with the sudden and violent loss of a woman they described as a blessing to all who knew her.
