On a Sunday morning in Logan County, Oklahoma, a 9-1-1 call shattered the rural quiet, leading to the discovery of a grim scene on Highway 51. Abraham “Abe” Clark, a 66-year-old male, was found with a fatal gunshot wound and died at the scene.
The call to dispatch was made by Clark's wife, Ashely Clark, who was present but uninjured. Alongside her husband, she reported that another man, 52-year-old Jack Duane Butler III, had also been shot.
Emergency services arrived to find a situation that suggested a violent confrontation had taken place.
While Abraham Clark was pronounced dead at the location of the shooting, Butler was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries and was also pronounced dead.
The Logan County Sheriff's Office secured the area, and due to the nature of the deaths, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the inquiry. Initial reports from law enforcement indicated that the incident was being investigated as a possible murder-suicide. Authorities assured the public that there was no ongoing threat related to the shootings. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with determining the official cause of death for both men.
