Patrolman John E. Braun, a 29-year-old officer with the Schofield Police Department in Wisconsin, tragically lost his life on December 24, 1979. The incident occurred when his service weapon accidentally discharged while he was attempting to repair it. This unfortunate event resulted in a fatal gunshot wound, leading to his untimely death.
