In the quiet, early morning hours of a November night, a sudden, sharp knocking at the front door shattered the peace of a west Phoenix home. Inside, Armando Salazar, a 40-year-old man, was awakened by the insistent sound. As he approached the entrance and opened the solid main door, leaving the outer security door locked, a volley of bullets tore through the metal screen.
