In the late summer of 2019, the life of Christopher Lytle, a 37-year-old Caucasian male from Baraboo, Wisconsin, came to an untimely and tragic end. On September 22, 2019, his body was discovered in a rural area within the Township of Fairfield, leading to a homicide investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff's Office. Lytle, a U.S. Army veteran who had served a tour in Iraq, was remembered by those who knew him for his passion for live-action role-playing, cooking, and the outdoors.
The investigation into his death quickly focused on a suspect with whom Lytle had a prior relationship. On October 9, 2019, detectives arrested 35-year-old Amber M. Lundgren of Richland Center. During questioning, Lundgren admitted to her involvement in Lytle's death, which had occurred on September 21, the day before his body was found. Authorities determined that the act was not random and that Lundgren had picked Lytle up from the Ho-Chunk Casino shortly before his death. She was subsequently charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
Following her arrest, Lundgren was held in the Sauk County Jail. In November 2020, she was released on a cash bond with the condition that she report to the Richland County Sheriff's Office daily. However, in September 2021, she was taken back into custody after failing to comply with these conditions, and a new jury trial was scheduled.
