In the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 5, 1931, a respected lawman's life was abruptly ended. John L. Wormell, a 64-year-old White male, had dedicated 35 years of his life to the Asotin County Sheriff's Department in Washington. On this particular night, he and a deputy were called to investigate a burglary in progress at a store located at the intersection of 2nd and Cleveland Streets in Clarkston.
