In the early morning hours of March 7, 2001, the community of Des Moines, Washington, was struck by a tragedy that would leave a lasting scar. Master Patrol Officer Steven J. Underwood, a 33-year-old White male, was gunned down in the line of duty, his life cut short in a senseless act of violence.
