On a fall day in Marysville, Washington, the life of 14-year-old Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, a Native American girl and member of the Tulalip Tribes, was irrevocably altered. On October 24, 2014, a freshman at Marysville Pilchuck High School named Jaylen Fryberg, 15, opened fire in the school cafeteria, targeting a table of his friends and cousins. Shaylee was among the five students shot by Fryberg before he turned the gun on himself.
