On November 16, 2018, the life of 67-year-old Sharilyn Ketola, a Caucasian female, was tragically cut short in her Olympia, Washington home. The sad event unfolded on a Friday morning when police received a silent 911 call from her residence on Cooper Crest Street Northwest.
Upon their arrival, officers were unable to get a response from inside the home. Peering through a window, they made a grim discovery, observing what appeared to be Ms. Ketola with blood around her.
This prompted a forced entry into the residence where they found her deceased from a gunshot wound. Also found at the scene was her domestic partner, 66-year-old James R. Wavrin, who was deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A shotgun was discovered next to him. Authorities also found a pet dog had been shot and killed at the home.
The investigation led authorities to conclude that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. They determined that Wavrin had shot and killed Ketola and the dog before turning the gun on himself. According to law enforcement, there was no prior history of police calls to their shared residence.
Sharilyn, a mother of two sons and a grandmother to seven, had been a resident of Olympia for 18 years. She was the owner of Queen Bee Cleaning Service and also worked as a sign language interpreter for North Thurston High School. She had entered into a domestic partnership with James Wavrin just a few months prior to her death.
